This piece was another one of my ‘scrap wood’ projects. When I started learning to play cello, I needed a music stand and as a woodcraft artisan, naturally, I wanted to make one for myself! Actually the idea came from receiving a child-size broken cello from a friend. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to save or repair that cello so it was gifted to me for use with other projects.

When the music stand idea came to me, I immediately thought of incorporating parts of the broken cello to make it. I used end-pin parts, pegs and the F-hole design for this music stand. It’s far from perfect, but I’m satisfied with the outcome and feel it somehow honours the life of the cello and the spirit of its learning!
