White Ring on wooden furniture
‘White Rings’ or marks on wooden furniture are caused by water/moisture were trapped in the finishing when it has low resistance to heat, water or alcohol. For instance, if you put a hot cup of tea on an old wooden table, white ring will appeared a few minutes later. Some times it will disappear a few minutes after but sometimes it remains.
To remove white rings, there are couple of ways but here is a simple & easy way by using ‘Hand Sanitizer’ which became something we got so used to lately. As it is nothing more than a gel-type of alcohol that gel suspends the solvent so that it doesn’t evaporated.
*How it works;
Prepare paper towel (about 2 or 4 folds) which will be used as a barrier so that solvent won’t touch the furniture & a timer to check the status
Apply hand sanitizer on to the paper away from the white ring of the furniture. Start with tiny section of the white ring to test
And put on the paper towel directly on the white ring. Make sure that hand sanitizer won’t touch the white ring directly but the bottom of the paper towel where apply the hand sanitizer
Set up 1 minute timer and check how it goes
If it works, it means that the alcohol was ever so slight touched/wet the finish and make the surface just enough dry so that moisture come back out. If it works, continue the rest of the white ring to remove :)
* Don’t let it sit too long to avoid dissolving the finish too much and messed up
